Discovery School is often described in many ways: the little school in the woods, a best-kept secret, or a hidden gem. Yet, these simple descriptions understate the true enormity of our impact on children and families.
Nestled on 40 acres of old-growth forest, Discovery School provides a learning environment unlike any other in the region. From our beautiful, well-equipped classrooms to the expansive outdoors, students engage in experiential, hands-on learning. We are a progressive, constructivist community led by educators who excel at meeting children exactly where they are and guiding them to become their best selves.
Our academic framework is phenomenal. As an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, our teachers implement the Primary Years Programme (PYP) with deep fidelity. While our students undertake rigorous academics, it is how they learn that truly differentiates them. The IB curriculum instills vital characteristics—encouraging children to be risk-takers and balanced individuals, inquisitive and reflective thinkers, and deeply analytical, strong communicators. This holistic growth happens both indoors and out, seamlessly carrying over into the arts, music, physical education, and outdoor leadership.
In 1975, the founders of Discovery School envisioned a place where children could step away from traditional desks and become active participants in constructing their own learning. Decades later, we honor that founding vision while consistently adopting modern best practices and research-driven educational approaches.
